About the Design: Lisa asked Eric to develop a character or image that would represent the Grief Thief that is based on the concept of disenfranchised grief. After reading an article about disenfranchised grief, Eric envisioned a Grief Thief would be someone who "doesn't listen and has no empathy...which led me to the idea of using a rock for the Grief Thief. It has no ears to hear with, it has no heart to feel empathy, and well...it's as dumb as a rock! I was imagining a piece of coal that leaves a toxic black smudge everywhere it goes. Just imagine holding a piece of coal, the more you interact with it the dirtier your hands get. It just leaves you feeling dirty and worthless...I've been a Grief Thief before and I didn't even know it!"
